Boyce Design & Contracting recently partnered with Make-A-Wish Georgia to grant a local child’s wish for a playhouse.
Gabriella, better known as Gabby, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at 8-years-old. Gabby endured 2 years of chemotherapy and during that time missed out on many activities healthy children enjoy daily so she could focus on getting better. The one thing Gabby wished for was to have a playhouse because she saw how much one of her own friends enjoyed their own playhouse.
Boyce Design & Contracting partnered with Make-A-Wish Georgia to help make Gabby’s dream come true, working directly with Gabby on the design of the space. Gabby became the youngest client the Boyce team has ever worked with. The team worked side-by-side with Gabby through the entire design process to bring her design to life as Gabby chose her own colors and special features to truly make the space her own. Inspired by Gabby’s strength and determination, Boyce donated the playhouse completely in-kind.
“When Make-A-Wish reached out to us to help grant Gabby’s wish, we knew that it was a project we wanted to be a part of. Gabby has persevered through so much and we wanted to put our resources to work to help make her wish happen,” says Thomas Boyce, President of Boyce Design & Contracting. “We worked hand in hand with Gabby to design her custom playhouse and it was very rewarding for us to see the whole project through from start to finish. It was fun and inspiring for us to be able to work with such a strong young lady. It was an amazing experience for our team to be able to make Gabby’s wish a reality, and we were happy to be able to contribute to such an amazing cause.”
Gabby’s mom says that the playhouse has become her daughter’s place of refuge and rest. When Gabby was in treatment, it was hard to escape the reality of her illness and the medicine, shots, and hospital stays associated with treatment. “It’s a great way for her to move on. She can associate normal life with it,” she says of Gabby’s new playhouse.
