Perched on a steep hillside with views overlooking a tranquil creek and nearby golf course, this stunning outdoor living retreat redefines modern luxury and functionality. What was once an unusable, overgrown, and eroding backyard is now a multi-level outdoor destination designed for relaxation, recreation, and year-round entertaining.

Our clients came to Boyce Design + Build wanting a high-end outdoor space that would provide options for swimming, cooking, lounging, and entertaining while overcoming the challenges of a severely sloped site. By using the natural grade to our advantage, we designed a rectangular infinity-edge swimming pool that doubles as a retaining wall, transforming a difficult topography into a stunning architectural feature. The spa with matching tile and spillover edge, along with an oversized tanning ledge, creates the perfect place to unwind while enjoying the breathtaking views beyond.

The spacious limestone patio surrounds the pool and seamlessly connects each destination – a cozy fire pit patio, a covered outdoor kitchen and lounge, and a beautifully designed putting green tucked into the shaded corner of the property. The putting green and outdoor kitchen area were thoughtfully designed to interact with one another, with bar seating positioned to encourage socializing while taking turns hitting the green. The modern vanishing edge pool features Cut Indiana Limestone coping and a Blue Surf Pebble Sheen finish, giving the water a crisp, luminous tone that beautifully reflects the surrounding landscape. A shimmering glass mosaic tile with a calming blue and silver palette adds depth and elegance to the pool and spa, creating a subtle, iridescent sparkle under natural light. The L-shaped outdoor kitchen boasts white Granite countertops and features a built-in gas grill, pizza oven, refrigerator, and bar seating, anchoring the entertainment space with both durability and sophistication. Multiple seating areas beneath the covered patio, complete with a wall-mounted TV and hot tub, create the perfect environment for hosting friends or relaxing with family.

Above the main level, the upper deck provides an elevated extension of indoor-outdoor living. Constructed with Tanzite Stonedeck decking in Aged Teak, the space is both beautiful and long-lasting. The screened-in lounge features a custom limestone fireplace, tongue-and-groove wood ceilings, integrated infrared heaters, and a large TV offering all the comforts of an indoor family room with an open-air connection to nature. Adjacent to it, the open-air dining deck, finished with the same Tanzite material and cable railing, is the perfect setting for alfresco dining among the trees.

This custom-designed Duluth outdoor living space, located just northeast of Atlanta, captures the essence of modern resort-style living at home, showcasing the seamless integration of architectural design, construction, and lifestyle. It’s a testament to how even the most challenging sites can be transformed into breathtaking multi-level retreats with the right design vision.
