Private Outdoor Zen Retreat

This modern compact outdoor living space was thoughtfully designed to maximize functionality while maintaining an open and serene atmosphere. Challenged with tight lot dimensions and strict city zoning requirements, our designers successfully created a Zen-like backyard retreat that combines a minimalistic design with the clean lines, and modern aesthetics our clients requested.

A Zen garden gravel walkway, bordered with low maintenance, sculptural evergreen plants, and ornamental grasses gracefully winds its way to the backyard where a custom-built black steel pergola and porcelain patio is the centerpiece for this tranquil outdoor retreat. A motorized retractable fabric screen, secured above large modern glass garage doors, spans the top of the pergola, and effortlessly provides shade and privacy during the warm summer months while built-in black infrared heaters add warmth to chilly evenings. In keeping with our homeowners request to create a Zen atmosphere, we artfully placed boulder groupings and small focal trees throughout the property for their modern aesthetic and calming influence.

Wide deck steps lead to a stunning Ipe wood hot tub tucked into a raised deck, providing the perfect spot for lounging and relaxing. The rich, reddish-brown color of the Ipe wood contrasts beautifully with the neutral tones of the Zen-like, modern designed space. Stylish breeze block decorative screen walls are used as both a design element and a privacy feature giving a sense of enclosure to the space without feeling closed off.
